About Me

I have grown up in East London reside in Shoreditch the arty area adjacent to the equally hip neighbourhood of Hoxton.  I draw inspiration and ideas, from what I see around me, especially places and their associated colour palette for future projects. I believe in affordable art for everyone and no nonsense approach to appreciating art - "You either like it or you don't". 

My Paintings

My Style

The particular style I choose to paint in is called Hard-edge, an approach to abstract painting that became widespread in the 1950s and 1960s and characterised by areas of flat colour with sharp, clear or hard edges.  

Artistic Inspiration

I like clean or hard edges or lines because, in life, I like structure, order and meaning.  My favourite inspirational artists are Ellsworth Kelly, Sean Scully, Andy Warhol, Ben Nicholson, David Hockney, Piet Mondrian, Bridget Riley, Picasso, Rothko and Keith Haring.

Materials

I like to use branded canvases/canvas boards and acrylic paints made by Belle Arti, Golden, Lefranc & Bourgeois, Liquitex and Windsor & Newton.  

Application  

I always apply at least 3 coats of paint to each section and then varnish each painting to give it a matt or glossy durable finish.   Before I consider a painting to be completed, I must feel totally satisfied with the technique, quality, process and application that I have applied.   

When I finish each painting, I like to give it a name, sign and date the back of the canvas.  All my paintings are either framed or ready to hang (unless requested otherwise) and come with a certification of authenticity.

My Photography

I am also a keen photographer and take photos of 'street art' across London, mainly using my smartphone and sharing them on my Instagram page.  When I am out and about,  I am always looking for interesting subject matter normally in plain sight.

Inspiration

My favourite photographers are Martin Parr, Vivian Maier, Dorothea Lange, Dora Maar, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Richard Heeps.

Art Museums & Art Fairs

Art Museums & Exhibitions 

With a few good friends, we attend numerous art venues and art fairs annually to get inspired. We are amazed by the old masters of the classics and contemporary and modern artwork and appreciate the work of new and up-and-coming artists.    

I am a member of the Tate and regularly attend art exhibitions at Tate Modern, Tate Britain.  I also enjoy visiting the Royal Academy of Arts, especially the annual Summer exhibition and the Saatchi Gallery in London.   I recently visited the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, a great venue and saw two fabulous exhibitions;  Ellsworth Kelly - Shapes and Colours, 1949 - 2015 and Matisse - The Red Studio.

Art Fairs

I also like to visit the following art fairs: Frieze London and The Other Art Fair at the Truman Brewery, this is my favourite where you can meet the artists and really liked some stunning works by Luke Maund and Miles Takes.  At the Affordable Art Fair in London which takes place in Spring and Autumn each year, I came across The Art Agency, a contemporary art gallery based in Surrey displaying some fantastic work by Emma Gibbons.
